Q: If I want to improve one all-important lawyering skill, what would you suggest I work on?
A: Writing. If you write better, it will mean you’re reasoning better. It will mean your clients will understand you more easily. It will mean your colleagues will be able to follow your thinking more readily, and those your senior will have less work to do to rely on yours. If you write better, chances are you will also enjoy your work more, in that writing is such a large part of the typical lawyer’s typical day. Everyone can improve their writing; you’ll never regret working on enhancing this key skill.
