Do I refer to lawyers I networked with in a cover letter to their firm?

Q:  Do I refer to lawyers I networked with in a cover letter to their firm?

A:  Yes. Don’t overstate their involvement in your search, but do refer to them as you apply to their workplace.  It’s important to avoid contacting employers cold, when you can; even putting the name(s) in the subject line of your cover message can help gain attention to your application. If they didn’t actually refer you or suggest you apply, use something more accurate, such as:  Spoke with ______ and am applying for Associate role.
