The following questions are designed to help attorneys evaluate their career objectives:
LOOKING BACK:
- What jobs do (did) your parents and siblings hold, and how do (did) their expectations
affect you?
- Why did you choose to attend law school, and how was that decision similar to
or different from the other choices you have made, before or since?
- What hobbies or activities outside the workplace have you engaged in and enjoyed,
from childhood forward, and what about them do you enjoy?
- Have you held any jobs in the past that you enjoyed more than your current job,
and if so, why?
CURRENTLY:
- What is your current (or most recent) job, and what about it do (did) you like
and dislike?
- Who are two people you admire, and what are their best qualities?
- Is there anyone you know or know of whose job you would prefer to have, and why?
- What skills do you possess that you are not currently using, and what additional
skills would you most like to be developing?
LOOKING AHEAD:
- If you could find a job within the legal profession that you enjoyed and were
satisfied with, would you want to remain a lawyer, or are you committed to a career change?
- Do you have a sense of what you want to do next, or do you need help to learn
what kinds of options are available?
- How much money do you want to make, and how much do you need to make in your
next job?
- Do you have a resume and cover letter that present you with strength, or do you
need input about how to advocate regarding the facts of your career?
