I am a 29 year old unhappy associate. I keep wondering not only what I want to be when I grow up…but when is it that I might actually feel grown up?

Q: I am a 29 year old unhappy associate. I keep wondering not only what I want to be when I grow up…but when is it that I might actually feel grown up?

A: It’s not the looming 3-0, or for that matter the big 4-0 or even 5-0 that makes one feel like a grown up. People of all ages tell me they look in the mirror and, no matter what they see, still feel 18 years old.

I think a person feels grown up when they begin to take their own best advice. Think about how many times you advise clients, your kids, or friends about the best path to take yet, for yourself, continue to ignore your own growing wisdom. I suggest you can’t feel happy, or grown up, until you recognize it, heed it and make strong, sound choices for yourself.
