Q: I’m thinking about my New Years resolutions for the coming year. Might you have a suggestion for one related to work?
A: Here’s one: Be the kind of lawyer with whom others want to work. That encompasses a lot. It means clients want the service you provide–timely, thoughtful, practical, and effective. It means more junior lawyers look to you for guidance, feedback, and growth opportunities. It means peers enjoy your collegiality, judgment, and trust. It means those more senior value your responsiveness, professionalism, and potential. It means you welcome a challenge and handle your work ethically, carefully, and creatively. It encompasses almost any other resolution you could make related to work.
Happy Holidays and enjoy the new year.
