Q: Is there an optimal time of year for a job search?
A: People may tell you there is…such as the first quarter of the calendar year when new budgets are in place. But the truth is, the best time of year to start looking for a new job is when you decide you want to move on.
A job search, like most important processes, takes time. Don’t dissuade yourself from starting because you think there’s a better time. Lawyers get hired in the summer, at year-end, and throughout the year, whenever there is a need. It’s easy to find excuses to delay looking, because change can be difficult…but inertia, procrastination, and remaining at a job you no longer want also have harsh consequences.
Update your resume and start the hunt. ‘Tis the season.
