Q: My sister is a new lawyer but works in retail and says she can’t find a law job. Is the situation really that bad?
A: There are entry level law jobs but, as at any point, people have to know how to search for them. Watching ads and postings is good, but she also needs to network and to know what to say about why she’s not yet working in law. Maybe she wanted to lay a foundation in customer service, sell every day, and be ready to bring those skills (which you don’t learn in law school) forward. The point is, job searches require blending truth with advocacy and being prepared to manage the moments, large and small, along the way.
Encourage her to keep looking in the law. The sooner she finds her footing and a foothold, the better…and the better she’ll feel.
