Q: Should I put Esq. after my name on my resume header?
A: I’d say no. It will be clear from a cover letter and your resume entries that you are a lawyer, whether you’re applying for a job in the law or not. There’s no need to overstate your case with Esq. in the header of the resume or in the signature line of the cover letter.
The exception would be if, in your geographical region or the one to which you are applying for a lawyer job, the custom suggests using Esquire or Esq. Look online at the names of Bar leaders, if you remain in doubt.
