When I see an online job posting, should I apply through the link or try to find someone to apply to offline?

Q:  When I see an online job posting, should I apply through the link or try to find someone to apply to offline?

A:   Apply through the requested channel and then try to warm it up through networking, to hopefully have someone internal request that your application be earmarked for attention. The alternative is to speak with someone in the company, based on networking, who says you can mention his/her name in your online cover note (and perhaps suggests that you apply by link and also send your resume and cover letter directly to them or someone else in the company)…but if that may take time, go ahead and apply onlne and then do the warming up.
